Now I'm the first one to admit that I'm not that found of President Obama. As you can tell by my "witty" cartoons and commentary I'm not a huge Obama supporter. However the former Illinois Senator had my attention and support for a hot minute.
You see Obama came out in full support of what was called the "Buy American" clause in a law that the House and Senate were debating over. The clause as I've come to understand it would've mandated that American steel and American iron must be used in contrustion projects that are part of the recovery plan.
I think this is an amazing idea. I was all for buying American after 9/11 and I still try to keep my buisness in the country. So naturally when I read that Obama was endorsing such a plan he gained a few points with me. I kind of scratched my beard and thought to my self, "Self...you know what maybe this is the start of something..." However that was all bought to a crash today.
The European Union got involved.
For those of you not on the up and up with the EU let me briefly explain it to you....it's like the UN exlusively for Europe...many of you thought that was NATO, but no NATO has another purpose...this is the EU. They have a weighted voting system, meaning that Germany for example has 26 votes where as smaller nations have 1. How is that democracy in action?
Not only that but in order to join the EU you must abolish the death pentalty...whatever happened to an eye for an eye? And you must make leaps and bounds to use the Euro, the currency of the EU, as your offical coin.
That's a whole lot of rules for a totally useless organization.
But basically the EU said that if "Buy American" was passed that they would have some trade stuff to talk over with the USA. Well Obama instead of standing strong and reminding the French and Germans that we've saved their butts more times then anyone can count folded like a House of Cards.
I'm not going to lie if B.O. would've stood up to the EU I would've embraced him. I would've applauded...however my faith in B.O. remains the same.
